Course Overview

The fiber Optic Cabling Training is designed to provide technicians, network engineers and project managers with the latest in optical fiber industry standards, design guidelines, installation practices, connector terminations, splicing, testing and troubleshooting.

This course is vendor-neutral and will follow the latest standards in structured cabling and fiber optic cabling and show how they relate to installation requirements, optical transmissions, cable design options, termination and splicing, testing and safety. The course will provide hands-on fiber optic termination, splicing and testing practices to the students.

1.) Class Room Session (1 1/2 days)

a) Basic concepts and terminology
b) Network fundamentals
c) Principles of transmission - Optical fiber
d) Optical fiber cabling systems components: Multimode and Singlemode
e) Standards
f) Horizontal cabling design
g) Backbone cabling design
h) Telecommunications Entrance Facilities
i) Optical fiber installation : Termination and Splicing
j) Optical fiber testing : Power Meter and OTDR
k) Application of fiber optics
l) Installation practices and Recommendations

2. Hands-on Session (1 1/2 days)
a) Cable preparation
b) Dressing cable into cabinets and outlets
c) Termination : adhesive/polish, and pre-polish
d) Splicing : Mechanical and Fusion
e) Testing : Visual fault locator, Light source/power meter testing, OTDR testing.
f) Certification testing and documentation
g) Technician safety practices

3.Written Exam
